2 employees hurt in explosion at Sport Chalet in La Cañada

Two people were taken to the hospital after an explosion occurred in the pool area at the Sport Chalet in La Canada Flintridge.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m., according to Sgt. Cynthia Gonzales of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The two injured were both employees of the store and were burned in the explosion, she said.

The severity of the injuries was not immediately known. They were transported to Huntington Hospital in Pasadena.

Gonzales said she did not know what type of explosion occurred or what caused it.

[Udpated 10:57 a.m.: No evacutions have been ordered other than for the Sport Chalet on 2 Sport Chalet Dr., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Hazmat officials are also enroute to investigate the cause of the explosion, which may have been caused by a gas leak.

Authorities urged the public to stay clear of the area.]
