An 18-year-old La Cañada Flintridge resident is running for a seat on the Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees.

Alex Keledjian on Monday announced his campaign for the Nov. 5 election to represent Area 1 on the board. The region includes La Cañada and two Pasadena neighborhoods: San Rafael and Linda Vista.

In a statement, the 2012 La Cañada High School graduate said his goals for the college were to “improve communication, continue fiscal responsibility, improve outreach to the community and school districts and constituent education.”

“My goals may only be the first step toward addressing the numerous needs at Pasadena City College, but our efforts will ultimately benefit the district at large,” Keledjian said.

The Area 1 seat is currently held by Geoffrey Baum, who was elected to the governing board in 2001.

Keledjian is currently a student at Pasadena City College and said he hopes to transfer to USC after he completes his credits this fall. He previously served as the student representative on the

La Cañada Unified school board and the president of the La Cañada High School Republican Club.

George Deukmejian, former governor of California, has endorsed his campaign.

In a statement, he said Keledjian “has experience, maturity, and knowledge that is beyond his years.”
