Students, professionals pack recital
Young musicians from La Cañada High School’s Instrumental Music Academy perfomed before a packed audience in the choir room on April 16.
The recital included several pieces by 19th-century German composer Felix Mendelssohn and one student-written piece. Sequoyah Sugiyama, a sophomore at the high school, composed an original work.
The Sunrise Quartet, which includes graduating seniors Elizabeth Asher, Bryan Chung, Jonwei Hwang, and Issac Jin, closed the event with a Mendelssohn perfomance Four professional musicians collaborated with the quartet: Mick and Stacy Wetzel and Connie and David Speltz.
Shanpin Hwang is the coordinator of the music program at the high school.
