County to help measure traffic near Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway
Los Angeles County will help pay for a study of how to improve traffic flow near the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Angeles Crest Highway.
Reacting to complaints of long wait times, multiple stops and frequent traffic backups, La Cañada Flintridge City Council members voted Aug. 5 to examine whether to adjust the timing of traffic signals and consider physical roadway improvements.
The $68,872 study by a consulting group will examine traffic patterns on Foothill between Verdugo Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue as well as on Angeles Crest between Foothill and the 210 Freeway ramps, said city Public Works Director Edward Hitti.
Work is set to begin in September or October, with results expected in early 2014, he said.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to contribute $23,174 toward the study’s cost, said Edel Vizcarra, planning deputy for Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
The money comes through the county’s Aid-to-Cities program, which helps fund city road improvements of significant benefit to the county.
The city added traffic signals to the area in 2007 to accommodate the La Cañada Flintridge Town Center development: one at Angeles Crest and Town Center Drive, a second at Foothill and Sport Chalet Drive, and a third at Foothill and Chevy Chase Drive.
