Gift to LCF school district more than $2 million

The La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation will write a check for more than $2 million to the La Cañada school district for the new school year, the organization recently announced.

Many local families made donations to the foundation, which supported the $2.225-million gift.

“As public school funding in California continues to come in at historically low levels, the members of this community have proven once again that we can and will do what we must to protect the education of our children,” Craig Mazin, president of the foundation, said in a statement.

The funds will be used to maintain small classes, support guidance and college counselors and a librarian for the high school, and provide tablets and laptops for the students, according to the organization. Election offerings and new language courses will also be supported by the gift.

The organization is asking all families in the district to make a donation during the back-to-school nights which occur over the next couple of weeks.
