The Crescenta Valley Drug and Alcohol Prevention Coalition will launch a new name Friday during its last quarterly meeting of the year, where Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) will be the guest speaker, discussing marijuana use.

The organization, established in 2010, will now be known as the CV Alliance.

For the past few years, the coalition has aimed to foster awareness of drug use among local teens and provide parents and their children with resources as it works to build a drug-free community.

In September 2010, the organization was awarded a $625,000 grant through the Drug Free Communities Program to spend over five years.

At the meeting, Glendale Police Det. Matt Zakarian, who serves as president of the organization, will speak about the organization’s past and its upcoming goals.

The meeting is open to the public.
