Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in La Cañada to discuss the future of the Rim of the Valley national recreation area.

The event is planned for 6 p.m. and will be held at the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, 1930 Foothill Blvd.

Since a Schiff bill was passed in 2008, the Rim of the Valley, stretching from the Santa Monica National Recreation Area through the Simi Hills, Santa Susannas, Verdugos and San Gabriel mountains, has been under study to determine the potential for federal protection and a variety of alternatives have been considered. The Park Service is developing a recommendation to present to Congress and expects to publish a draft of their recommendation this summer.

Schiff hopes to hear from constituents whether they would like sections of the Rim of the Valley study area to be part of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, the San Gabriel Park, a new Rim of the Valley recreation area or remain as it is.
