Video: Crescenta-Cañada YMCA hosts indoor triathlon
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA held its first-ever Indoor Triathlon Saturday, with individuals and family teams swimming laps in an indoor pool, then riding stationary spin bikes and running on treadmills in a friendly competition designed to promote active lifestyles.
The event was an overall success, drawing more than 30 participants, who ranged in age from 6 into the 60s, Healthy Living Director Craig Strazzeri said Monday.
“We always want to find more ways for people to stay active and healthy,” Strazzeri said. “Some people like to go and work out, but others need a little competition or something fun like this.”
Some who partook were training for real triathlons, while others were simply there with sons and daughters to have some family fun, Strazzeri added. As participants raced from one event to another, YMCA members there for other activities stopped to watch and cheer on the teams.
The event was so popular, the Y plans to hold a second indoor triathlon sometime in October, though a date has not yet been said, Strazzeri said.
