La Cañada schools on lock down during high speed chase

Schools in the La Cañada Unified School District were on high alert while a high-speed car chase traveled through the Crescenta Valley area.

Students remained indoors and security personnel monitored the area, said Supt. Wendy Sinnette.

The chase involving a burglary suspect began early on Thursday morning and ended shortly before 9 a.m. in Tujunga, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Sinnette said the district was in constant contact with the sheriff’s department and monitored the situation until the area was cleared.

Christine Castillo, principal of La Canada Elementary, said in emailed note to parents that the campus had initiated a lockdown for 10 minutes during the chase.
