Thanks for a heart-warming story

The article, “Playing the hand of a lifetime” (Jan. 20), was very heartwarming.

I know it must have been hard to fit everything into such a small space, but I think reporter Joe Piasecki wrote it perfectly. Thanks for sharing it.

News of fires and muds causes sympathy

Those forest fires and mudslides may have had more lasting results than we thought. A friend called today from New Jersey. “The snow around the house is up to my shoulders. One day I couldn’t get out of the house at all,” he said. “Now there’s another storm on the way.”

“Yes, I know,” his wife told him. “But think of those poor friends of yours in La Cañada.”
