A double endorsement

We are voting for Andrew “AJ” Blumenfeld for school board.

Both of us are personally aware of AJ’s qualifications for this position — Joanna, a junior at University of San Francisco, was a classmate of AJ’s at La Cañada High and a member of the same class at the YMCA’s Youth and Government program, and Bob taught AJ in his Law and Mediation ROP class at LCHS. Andrew has observed the variation in teachers, especially at our high school. Some of the teachers are fabulous, while others are in dire need of improvement, or even dismissal.

The value of any business or operation — and don’t kid yourself, the running of schools is a business and an operation — depends on its foundation. Our schools’ foundation is our teaching staff, the front line of education and the very basis of the building of our children’s abilities to meet the world. It is therefore our school board members’ responsibility to monitor improvement programs for its teachers.

It is clear that AJ will do just that and will, by his sheer energy, improve the foundation of our education system. His suggestion to implement customer satisfaction surveys is only one way this candidate will improve our schools. AJ’s assurance that any goals of the district will be transparent — discussed in open sessions — will, likewise promote the improvement of our schools.

AJ is an idea man with endless energy and will be nothing but a positive source for improvement on the school board. We’ve seen that energy and know it will carry to everything he does.

Whether you vote absentee in the next few weeks or at the polls on Nov. 8, we encourage you to join us in voting for Andrew “AJ” Blumenfeld for school board member
