Watching the sparks fly

I am blessed with an expansive view of our valley from my home. With every Santa Ana wind episode, I watch the sparks fly as trees fall into the power lines below. It seems only a matter of time before an electrical fire takes hold and is propelled by the wind through our city.

Does this have to happen before we put the power underground? How many homes must burn? How many lives must be lost?
