Regarding the Valley Sun article, “Housing market still flailing,” on Jan.19, we find it interesting that reporter Daniel Siegal chooses to quote the opinion of Keith Sorem, rather than that of Carey Haynes. Siegal interviewed Haynes for 30 minutes and apparently did not like her optimistic attitude about the local real estate market. Instead, he deferred to Sorem, a Glendale-based agent who has, according to statistics provided by the Multiple Listing Service, never sold a house in La Cañada. Haynes sold 15 homes in La Cañada in 2011 alone. Siegal also chose to quote a homeowner whose house did not sell last year, rather than one of the 212 La Cañada homeowners who did sell their homes in 2011.

Since Jan. 1 this year, every agent in our office with properties listed has received multiple offers. While price per square foot varies dramatically from $300-$550, properly priced homes that are presented well sell quickly. Low inventory and historically low interest rates have stabilized our market. We hope to see Sorem on the La Cañada caravan once in a while. This year may be the year that he gets to know our market, instead of merely quoting statistics he finds on his computer.
