Lecturer to be at La Cañada church

Christian Science lecturer Mary Alice Rose will speak twice at First Church of Christ, Scientist in La Cañada Flintridge at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and again on Friday, April 20, also at 8 p.m.

Rose will address the topic, “Are brick-and-mortar churches passé?” during her April 19 appearance, and “Has technology made God and spirituality obsolete?” during her April 20 talk. Both events are free and open to the public. The church is located at 600 Foothill Blvd. Child care will be provided on site for small children.

Church teens collect for the hungry

Youths from La Cañada United Methodist Church, Lutheran Church in the Foothills and other area churches will participate in World Vision’s 30-Hour Famine on April 27 and 28. The event is an international movement in which youth fast for 30 hours to raise awareness about hunger and to raise money for children in need.

Participants age 14 and over are collecting donations, which can also be made online at www.support.worldvision.org/goto/30hourfamine91011.

Christian faith course offered

A 10-week course and practical introduction to the Christian faith recently began and is being held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at a private home at 5022 Hook Tree Road in La Cañada. While the program is hosted by St. Luke’s Anglican Church, all backgrounds, religions and viewpoints are welcome. The evening begins with an informal dinner, followed by a large-group learning time and small-group discussions.
