Bears and trash etiquette

Several articles have appeared regarding bears being attracted to trash cans in various neighborhoods over the past couple of months. It would be a good thing to remind readers that an excellent way to avoid this problem is to practice trash etiquette. This means not putting smelly garbage into your trash can.

How can you do this? Simple: Freeze smelly garbage in your freezer and only put it into your trash can on the morning of your trash pickup. This is simple and not a big deal. We practice this all the time.

Of course, local supermarket regulations against plastic bags make this more difficult, but those of us who have always practiced multiple use of such bags clear our conscience of all guilt. The simple bags have been used many times before discarding them into the trash, always full of legitimate trash.
