Everybody’s talking about Obamacare

David C. Wilcox’s content-free analysis of the threat to liberty posed by the requirement for people to have medical insurance (“Get rid of Obama and Obamacare,” Mailbag, July 5) misses a rather important point: It’s highly unlikely that Obamacare will be repealed.

To repeal the law would require a 60-vote majority in the Senate, and the Democrats will not allow anything less than a filibuster-proof majority to threaten a signature piece of legislation. Further, it’s likely that President Obama will be reelected. He’s done a reasonable job given the wake of disaster that was the Bush presidency, and one would hope the populace is not so forgetful that they would turn over the economy to the party that so ineptly oversaw its destruction just four years ago.

A more logical response to Obamacare would be to work on a bipartisan basis to improve the law where it’s lacking on behalf of all Americans. But, of course, it’s easier to just yell about things.
