It’s better to plant native species

Share

It was wonderful to read about the volunteers replacing ivy with native plants at Cherry Canyon, where I hike.

It was a shock to learn that the city would plant invasive ivy when Descanso Gardens is trying to remove it from around oaks. Descanso is expanding its native plant areas, which is why, as a recent retiree, I am becoming a volunteer for that work.

With a growing need to conserve water and protect native wildlife, La Cañada should be part of the growing appreciation of California-native plants, not trying to plant ivy that harms the native oaks in Cherry Canyon.
