Letter: In support of Jeffries, Puglia and Sagal

Share

I think I bring a unique perspective when it comes to endorsing candidates for the upcoming LCUSD school board election. I grew up in La Cañada, attended La Cañada schools K-12, have been teaching at Paradise Canyon Elementary for the past 18 years, have a daughter who attends 7th grade at LCHS, will have a daughter entering kindergarten in 2014, and I am a La Cañada resident.

Please join me in supporting Dan Jeffries, Kaitzer Puglia and David Sagal for the LCUSD Governing Board. I had the pleasure of interviewing all eight school board candidates. I am supporting Jeffries, Puglia, and Sagal because these candidates believe in partnerships with parents, teachers and the school board. They each bring outstanding qualities and experiences that are essential for a successful school board.

Dan Jeffries is the only candidate with children at an elementary school and he values and supports the quality teachers who work with the community’s children every single day. His positive attitude and enthusiasm are infectious, and I appreciate the fact he has a vested interest in our schools, especially at the elementary level, which tends to get overlooked.

Kaitzer Puglia is the only candidate with a background in education. This perspective enables her to be aware of the challenges we face with the implementation of Common Core Standards, Smarter Balanced Assessments, and the daily work of teachers and staff.

David Sagal has been active in the Educational Foundation, Boosters, LCHS Choral program and many other community groups. He is interested in doing what is best for our children and said it was his time to give back to the community.

Thank you for considering Dan Jeffries, Kaitzer Puglia, and David Sagal for La Cañada school board. This is a very important election for your children, your schools and your community.
