St. Bede the Venerable Roman Catholic Church has announced a new program for students who have served the community.

The Distinguished Service Award Program will honor students who have volunteered at the church, the school or in the community.

Al Restivo, president of the Italian Catholic Federation’s local branch, said in a statement that he wanted to recognize seventh- and eighth-grade students who serve the community.

“Our program is designed to single them out for recognition and a cash award,” he stated. “As we roll out this program, it is our hope that next year we will be able to expand it to high school students as well.”

All students who attend schools in the city are eligible to apply. Applications are available at the church and are due by Jan. 30.
