Sports Roundup: La Cañada girls’ water polo falls to top seed in quarterfinals

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Santa Margarita 8, La Cañada 6: La Cañada’s season wrapped up Saturday with a road loss in a CIF Southern Section Division II quarterfinal match.

The Spartans (20-8) held a 3-2 halftime lead against top-seeded Santa Margarita (18-8). Santa Margarita, which won the Trinity League championship, built a 6-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

La Cañada won the Rio Hondo League title for the fourth straight season.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 59, Arroyo Valley 47: Kaitlyn Chen finished with 25 points and Madison Manning added 15 on Saturday to spark visiting Flintridge Prep to a CIF Southern Section Division II-A second-round victory.

Sofia Gonzalez added 10 points for Flintridge Prep (23-2).

Flintridge Prep, which won the Prep League title, will be at home against Chino Hills (20-8) in a quarterfinal contest Wednesday at a time to be determined.

Chino Hills took second in the Baseline League.

WRESTLING

La Cañada in CIF Individual Tournament: La Cañada girls’ senior wrestler Sophie Garcia fell in the 170-pound championship bout at Brea Olinda High in Brea on Saturday.

Garcia’s second-place finish earned her a trip to the Masters Meet on Friday.

In Saturday’s consolation round, La Cañada senior Johnny Vasily placed sixth in the 170-pound bout and is an alternate at the Masters Meet. Brandon Abboud, the Spartans’ 138-pound wrestler, was unable to make weight for his match.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pacific 3, Flintridge Prep 0: Flintridge Prep saw its season conclude Saturday with a CIF Southern Section Division VI second-round road loss.

The Rebels went 14-7-1 and finished first in the Prep League.
