Soccer camp has top coaches

Players at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s annual three-day soccer camp last week got the advantage to learn skills from a group of accomplished coaches.

The event, held July 6 to 8 at the school, served to introduce incoming freshman players to the high school’s varsity team. The camp was under the direction of veteran coaches Frank Pace and Kathy Desmond.

“We’ve done this at our camp for many years,” said Pace, the FSHA co-coach. “It’s great for the players.”

Players also received instruction from a pair of guest coaches who came from nearby colleges.

Isabelle Harvey, the women’s head coach at Cal Poly Pomona, is the all-time leading scorer for USC, was an All-American and played for the Canadian women’s national team.

Kerri Sanchez is the women’s head coach for the combined team of players from Claremont McKenna College, Harvey Mudd College and Scripps College. She played for the University of North Carolina, where she helped her team win four national championships, and was an Academic All American. In addition, Sanchez played for the U.S. Women’s National Team.

“The camp not only gives the freshmen time with the older players, but also gives them an idea of what it takes to make the varsity team at Flintridge,” said Desmond, the FSHA co-coach.

FSHA’s soccer team won the Southern California Regional Championship earlier this year.

Free youth football camp

B2G Sports has teamed up with AOS Medical Center to sponsor the second annual Youth Football Skills Camp.

The camp for players 8 to 18 will take place from 8 a.m. to noon July 24 at St. Francis High. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

Pre-registration is highly recommended at https://aosyouth.com, and all pre-registered campers will also receive a free T-shirt.

B2G specializes in teaching the proper technique and skills needed to be successful on the field. Players will learn from qualified trainers and former college players to enhance quickness and agility.

The goal of the event is for each camper to learn how to compete on a high level and learn how to take care of their body and prevent injuries in the process.
