Sports medicine event at St. Francis

St. Francis High, along with the California Athletic Trainers Association (CATA), will host the 9th Annual High School Sports Medicine Competition Saturday at the St. Francis campus from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The competition gives students an opportunity to take part in both written and hands-on practical testing. This year's competition will field the largest attendance to date, as roughly 550 students representing 33 schools will take part in the largest sports medicine competition in California.

Martin Vogel, who was a top American Motorcycle Association competitor before suffering a spinal cord injury, will be the event's keynote speaker. He coined the term "handi-capable" and has gone on to enjoy a successful career in marathon and distance competitions, where he has broken numerous records and won world championships.

CATA will award the High School Athletic Training Student of the Year at the end of the day.
