Panthers, Tigers wrap up titles

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Poly 13, Mayfield 4: Hannah Grotzinger (five steals) and Lindsey Kelleher (five assists) each scored a team-high three goals, while Catherine Finney and Allison Woo notched a pair of goals for the Panthers (19-2, 11-0), who clinched the Prep League title outright on Tuesday afternoon.

Mimi Moorish tallied 11 saves for Poly, while her counterpart Ellie Karl finished with seven saves for Mayfield (13-5, 7-4).

Christina Coppersmith scored two goals for the Cubs.

South Pasadena 15, La Cañada 3: The Tigers clinched their third straight Rio Hondo League title outright with an easy win in league play Tuesday afternoon.

Devin Grab scored three goals and teammates Liza Echeverria, Hannah Vaden and Naomi Kreiger both chipped in two goals for the Tigers (19-8, 8-0).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Poly 97, Flintridge Prep 22: Panthers senior guard Michelle Miller moved into seventh all-time in the state scoring list after tallying 42 points, seven rebounds, five assists and blocks for the Panthers in Prep League play Tuesday afternoon.

Miller’s career total of 3, 230 points surpassed Terri Mann of San Diego Point Loma’s total of 3,188 points. La Jolla Country Day’s Candice Wiggins is next with 3,240 points.

Kiki Yang added 19 points, 13 steals and eight assists, Catherine Lehman chipped in 10 points and Courtney Foster added nine points and nine assists for the Panthers (20-4, 11-0).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 65, Pasadena Poly 43: Zack Bern had 12 points Tuesday for the host Panthers in a Prep League contest.

Pasadena Poly dropped to 5-16, 1-6 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Pasadena 1, Hoover 1: Junior Alejandro Loeza scored for the Bulldogs (8-5-4, 5-4-4) in Pacific League action Tuesday afternoon as Pasadena clinched an automatic playoff berth.

Crescenta Valley 3, Muir 0: The Mustangs dropped to 3-9-1 in league after a Pacific League defeat Tuesday afternoon.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

San Marino 3, Monrovia 1: Sophomore forward Hayley Thompson scored a first-half hat trick to lead the Titans to a Rio Hondo League home victory Tuesday afternoon.

Alana Hillman added an assist, while goalkeeper Ellie Hannan collected two saves for San Marino (9-2-6, 4-1-4), which moved into a second-place tie in league with La Cañada.

Poly 3, Mayfield 2: Noel Askins scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 79th minute to propel the Panthers to a Prep League road victory Tuesday afternoon.

Becca Hanel scored a goal for the Panthers (17-3, 7-2), while goalie Julia Yun added seven saves.

Danielle Yao and Molly Serhan notched goals for the Cubs (7-6, 5-4), who received seven saves from goalie Alana Victory.
