La Canada already a second-rounder

La Canada High’s girls’ basketball team already finds itself in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs.

As the CIF released playoff pairings on Sunday, the Spartans, after taking second in the Rio Hondo League, advanced directly to the second round with a bye.

Flintridge Sacred Heart and Flintridge Prep, on the other hand, have difficult obstacles in front of them if they hope to get as far.

Flintridge Sacred Heart, an at-large out of the Mission League, will take on fifth-seeded Muir, the Pacific League champion, on Thursday in the first round of the Division 4AA playoffs. The winner will face
Chadwick or St. Anthony Saturday.

Flintridge Prep also received an at-large out of the Prep League and will face eighth-seeded St. Genevieve, the third-place finisher out of the Santa Cruz League, on Thursday in the Division 5AA playoffs. The winner will face either Aquinas or Bishop Union.

The Spartans will host either Corona del Mar and Saddleback on Saturday in the second round.

All games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts unless a mutual change occurs.
