Spartans sweep Minutemen

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

La Cañada 3, Maranatha 0: Orion Burl posted team-highs in kills (nine) and assists (10) in La Cañada’s sweep at Maranatha Monday, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22.

Jonathan Sullivan had an all-around game with seven kills, seven assists, six aces and two blocks for the Spartans, who also got six kills from Jack Anderson.

Stephen Gannon had a team-high 10 digs for La Cañada (5-17).

Editor’s Note: It was incorrectly reported previously that La Cañada was winless in league. La Cañada has one win in league.

St. Francis 3, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: Chris Thompson recorded 49 assists Monday to lead visiting St. Francis to a 25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 26-24 Mission League win. Charles McCarthy collected 20 kills and Wesley Coffey added 15 for St. Francis (12-5, 7-5 in league).

SOFTBALL

La Cañada 9, Temple City 0: Lauren Cox tossed a one-hitter and struck out 10 batters at home Monday for the shutout victory.

Olivia Leyva notched two hits, two runs batted in, a double, stolen base and scored for the Spartans, who also got two hits from Katy Lee.

La Cañada also got two RBI from Kelsey Drange and a RBI from Aubri Thompson, Annie Monroe, Lee and Brenna Gay.

The win brings the Spartans to 17-4-1, 6-1-1 in league after they fell to Dos Pueblos (1-0) and Thousand Oaks (4-1) in the Thousand Oaks Tournament Saturday.

Cox struck out eight batters and gave up just two hits in the tournament opener against Dos Pueblos, which got the walk-off win over the Spartans, who had four hits in the two games Saturday.

BASEBALL

Flintridge Prep 14, Rio Hondo Prep 4 (six innings): Clayton Weirick got through six innings with two earned runs allowed on just 68 pitches in a Prep League victory on the road Tuesday.

Prep (6-14, 3-7) totaled 14 hits.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep in Prep league Tournament: Jack Bouchard shot a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday at Brookside Golf Course No. 1. Teammate Richard Lo had a 91. The tournament’s second round will be held at 1 p.m. today at the same location. The top four from the field of 14 will move on to the CIF Southern Section Individual Tournament on May 14.

St. Francis in Mission League finals: The Golden Knights shot a 397 to take sixth in the league finals Monday at Lakewood Country Club. The individual tournament will take place at 10 a.m. today at Wilson Golf Course at Griffith Park.

BOYS’ TENNIS

St. Francis in Mission League finals: John Kazanjian and Christopher Grosvenor came close to defeating the league’s No. 2 seed in doubles from Harvard-Westlake, as they forced a tie-breaking set but just lost, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.

Kazanjian and Grosvenor spent the season as St. Francis’ top two singles players, but were shifted into doubles for the tournament Monday.
