Flintridge Prep boys’ water polo opens with win over Arcadia

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Flintridge Prep 8, Arcadia 6: Diego Delgado paced the Rebels with three goals in their nonleague season opener on the road Wednesday. Carlo Sivilotti and Jaime Walker each scored goals within the first two minutes of the fourth period to put Prep up 8-2, which would prove crucial when the apaches (0-1) mounted a 4-0 run to get within two with a minute to play. Brian Kihn had seven saves for the Rebels.

GIRLS’ GOLF

Burroughs 237, La Cañada 248: The Spartans got off to a sloppy start in their season opener at the DeBell Golf Course after their originally scheduled opener with South Pasadena and Crescenta Valley was rained out Aug. 30.

La Cañada looked to rebound against Marlborough at the Wilshire Country Club Wednesday and against Bishop Alemany and Saugus Thursday.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Downey 3, La Cañada 1: The Spartans’ run through the Gahr Molten Classic ended Monday in a 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 loss to the Vikings.

La Cañada went 3-3 in the tournament with an opening win via sweep over Torrance, 25-14, 25-11, 25-9, last Thursday before it was swept by Canyon, 25-17, 25-22, 25-16, and fell to Huntington Beach, 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, Saturday.

The Spartans bounced back with wins over Anderson and Warren, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20, Monday before they fell to Downey.

Micaela Anderson had a team-high 16 kills, three blocks and three aces — tied with Loren Shin and Megan Arnold — in the loss to the Vikings. Leigh Sclafani had a team-high 33 aces in the loss and Madison Teodo had a team-best 14 digs.

Through six matches Anderson has 81 kills, nine aces, eight blocks and 34 digs. Teodo has 68 digs and Sclafani has recorded 154 assists.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

La Cañada 17, Burroughs 1: The Spartans got sweeps from all of their doubles teams, including the top doubles teams of Linnea Frazier and Alison Chang and Emily Swanson and Serena Zhang, respectively, and another from No. 1 singles player Sawa Keymuelen in their season opener on Aug. 29.
