BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Canada 40, South Pasadena 21: Koko Kurdoghlian and Jacob Brown gave the Spartans a lift off the bench Thursday night, scoring 14 and 11 points, respectively, in La Cañada’s final Rio Hondo League game. The win locked up second place in league for the Spartans and stopped a two-game skid.

“It was a good win, we needed a win going into the playoffs,” La Cañada Coach Tom Hofman said.

Ranked 12th in CIF Southern Section Division III-AA, the Spartans (15-12, 7-3 in league) now await the release of the playoff brackets on Sunday.

“We’re where we are, we’re very young and we’ve had some big moments this year,” Hofman said. “If we have a couple of good practices, it’s a division with some good teams in it, but there’s some teams that we can beat, too.”

South Pasadena (9-17, 3-7) was led by Nicolas Sullivan’s nine points.

Flintridge Prep 63, Pasadena Poly 51: Robert Cartwright and Kareem Ismail each registered 11 points Thursday to lead the host Rebels in a Prep League game.

Jedrick Eugenio added 10 points for Flintridge Prep (19-5, 8-0 in league).
