Tologs net postseason awards

A quartet of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy softball players recently received All-Mission League accolades.

Sumner Hanula and Kelly Jacobs were named to the first team, while Kaitlin Powers and Stasia McGregor received nods to the second team after the Tologs finished 11-12-1 and 3-7 in league for fourth place.

Hanula, a senior shortstop, supplied plenty of power for Flintridge Sacred Heart. Hanula batted .529 (36 for 68) with three home runs and 33 runs batted in. She collected seven doubles and four triples and stole 12 bases. Hanula also scored 28 runs and finished with an .882 slugging percentage.

Jacobs, a senior center fielder, hit .346 (27 for 78) with four triples and seven stolen bases. She drove in 14 runs and scored 18 times.

“Sumner had a great year and was clearly our best all-around player,” Flintridge Sacred Heart Coach Kirk Nishiyama said. “We had her in the middle of the lineup and she delivered plenty of times.

“Kelly was our leadoff hitter who could get on base and set the table. The plan was to get her on and have Sumner get her in.”

Powers, a sophomore third baseman, batted .427 (32 for 75) with 11 doubles, 18 runs and 25 runs batted in. McGregor, a junior catcher, batted .368 (21 for 57) with eight doubles, 14 runs and six runs batted in.

Schraer picks up league recognition

It proved to be a tough season for the St. Francis High baseball team, but it did have a bright spot in senior outfielder Anders Schraer.

Schraer earned a spot on the All-Mission League second team after leading the Golden Knights in four separate categories. He batted a team-high .397 (27 for 68) with 17 runs batted in, 19 runs and 12 stolen bases. He finished with a .943 fielding percentage.
