La Cañada High football earns a sizable share of Rio Hondo League accolades

Fresh off a third-place finish in the Rio Hondo League and an appearance in the CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs, the La Cañada High football team had 11 players pick up all-league honors as voted on by the league’s six coaches.

Senior running back Jadon Henry and senior lineman D’Andre Sims earned spots on the first-team offense. Henry rushed for 478 yards in 55 carries and five touchdowns.

Senior defensive lineman Guillermo Padilla and junior defensive back Samuel Brown were selected to the first-team defense. Padilla finished with five sacks and Brown had four interceptions and averaged three tackles per game.

Earning spots on the second-team offense were Padilla and senior Adam Fazzi at lineman, junior tight end Todd Murray and sophomore kicker Michael Selsor. Murray caught 14 passes for 285 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Selsor converted on three field-goal attempts.

Murray and senior linebacker Marshall Clark were named to the second-team defense. Murray averaged four tackles per contest and Clark finished with 68 tackles.

Junior linebacker/safety Anthony Connell, junior middle linebacker Cal McFadden and junior running back Donald Breneman received honorable mention.

Connell finished with 42 tackles and three interceptions. McFadden notched 71 tackles and had three fumble recoveries. Breneman rushed for 574 yards in 60 carries and had eight touchdowns.

The Spartans finished 5-6 and 3-2 in league.
