Sports Roundup: St. Francis High boys’ basketball advances to San Gabriel Valley Classic semifinals

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 52, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 51: Koko Kurdoghlian hit a go-ahead field goal with 10 seconds remaining and Notre Dame missed at the buzzer as the Spartans walked out with a bracket victory in the San Gabriel Valley Classic on Friday evening.

Daniel Jun led the Spartans (8-2) with 15 points, while Kurdoghlian added nine points and Grant Arthur and Jacob Brown added eight points each.

La Cañada earned advancement to the tournament semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Monrovia versus Upland.

St. Francis 51, Ayala 46: Junior guard Kyle Leufroy had another brilliant game, scoring a game-high 25 points to lead the Golden Knights to a bracket victory in the San Gabriel Valley Classic on Friday evening.

With the victory, the Golden Knights (9-2) advanced to the tournament semifinals on Saturday evening at 7:30 at Monrovia High versus Bonita.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hart 52, La Cañada 42: Despite 23 points from Courtney Chen, the Spartans fell in pool action of the La Cañada Holiday Classic Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Keilee Bessho added seven points for La Cañada (8-3), which next faces Moorpark on Saturday at 4 p.m.

BOYS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 0, Pioneer 0: A day after blitzing Moorpark, 4-0, the Spartans had their offensive mojo halted in a scoreless tie in the second match of the La Cañada Tournament on Friday afternoon.

With the tie, La Cañada’s record is now 5-1-3. The Spartans will next face Glendale on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Flintridge Prep 4, La Salle 0: Cole Rademacher collected a pair of goals Friday for the Rebels (7-3) in a consolation match of the Ontario Christian Tournament. Henry Griffith and Michael Weinstein had one goal apiece for Flintridge Prep, which received three saves from goalkeeper Hamilton Evans.
