All-Area Boys’ Cross-Country Team

Elliot Choe, Senior, Burbank

Set a school record in winning the Ojai Invitational in 15:56. Was third (15:30) in the Division I race at the Mt. SAC Invite in leading team to win. Took fifth (14:44.09) at the Pacific League Finals in helping Burbank to second place. Concluded season by running a personal-best time of 15:25, good for 28th at the CIF-SS Division I finals.

Gabe Collison, Senior, Crescenta Valley

Earned fifth in the Mt. SAC Invitational Division I Sweepstakes in 15:02 before finishing third at the Pacific League Finals in 14:13.47. Followed that up by taking 13th at the CIF-SS Division I Finals in 15:09 in leading the Falcons to fifth and a state berth. Finished a wonderful career by taking 21st (15:44) at the CIF State Division I race.

Matt Manalo, Senior, Crescenta Valley

Took home a victory at the 46th annual Staub/Barnes Invitational Division I race with a time of 15:54.03. Was the Falcons’ No. 2 runner at the Pacific League finals, finishing eighth (14:54.78) overall as Crescenta Valley took third as a team. Placed 31st (15:27) at the CIF-SS Division I finals and concluded season taking 46th (15:59) in the CIF State Division I race.

Arsen Mkrtchyan, Senior, Burbank

Placed fourth (15:31) in the Division I race at the Mt. SAC Invite. Placed sixth (14:49.12) at the Pacific League finals. Ran a personal-best time of 15:28 for 29th place at the CIF-SS Division I finals.

Jack Van Scoter, Sophomore, Flintridge Prep

Consistently was the Rebels No. 2 runner all the season. Finished third (15:31) at the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational and then helped the Rebels to a 21st Prep League title in 22 years by taking second at league finals in 15:46. Van Scoter (second, 15:19) also aided Rebels in winning a CIF-SS Division V title and a fourth-place showing at the CIF State Division V championships by taking third (15:41).

Coach of the Year

Ingrid Herskind, Flintridge Prep

It was another banner year for the veteran coach, who led the Rebels to a fifth-place finish at Stanford and then a runner-up effort at the Clovis Invitational. Flintridge Prep also took the silver at the Mt. San Antonio College Division V Sweepstakes. The Rebels romped to a Prep League team championship at Los Angeles Pierce College before winning their fifth-ever CIF Southern Section Division V championship, 56-79, over Thacher. While Flintridge Prep finished fourth at state, the program produced its first-ever Southern Section and state individual champion in senior Alan Yoho.
