Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep baseball bounces back with win at Rio Hondo Prep

Flintridge Prep 2, Rio Hondo Prep 0: The Rebels snapped a four-game winless streak with a well-pitched performance in a Prep League road victory on Tuesday.

Rebels starting pitcher Brendan McKiernan (3-2) went the distance in scattering four hits and fanning eight versus one walk.

“It was a big improvement for Brendan,” Rebels Coach Guillermo Gonzalez said. “He was hitting his spots and had a lot of movement on his fastball.”

Hamilton Evans was two for three with two runs for Flintridge Prep (7-5-1, 3-2), while senior Michael Weinstein was two for four with two RBI.

BOYS’ GOLF

St. Francis 183, Chaminade 214: Michael Finney carded a one-under-par 34 on Tuesday to earn medalist honors for the Golden Knights in a Mission League match at Woodland Hills Country Club.

St. Francis (8-4, 7-3 in league) received 35s from Johnny Brandt and Michael Mozilo and a 38 from Tommy Altmayer.

On Monday, St. Francis captured the Lompoc Easter Invitational.

Mozilo carded an even-par 73 to secure medalist honors at the event at La Purisima Golf Course.

St. Francis received an 80 from Finney and an 88 for Stian Lintvedt to finish at 241 and win by four strokes.

La Cañada 189, Crescenta Valley 195, Alemany 215: Eduardo Flores led the Spartans with a one-under-33 in carding the best score on Tuesday for La Cañada in a nonleague tri-match at La Cañada Country Club.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Chaminade 14, La Cañada 8: The Spartans dropped to 1-8 overall after a road defeat on Tuesday afternoon.
