Sports Roundup: La Cañada High baseball suffers late-inning heartbreak

BASEBALL

Temple City 5, La Canada 4: The visiting Rams scored two runs in the top of the seventh and dealt the Spartans a Rio Hondo League defeat Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Spartans dropped to 9-7, 2-3 in league and have lost the first two games of the three-game season series with Temple City.

Flintridge Prep 8, Rio Hondo Prep 5: Cole Pilar had a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Rebels to a Prep League win at the Glendale Sports Complex on Wednesday.

Pilar’s hit gave the Rebels a 7-5 lead before Michael Weinstein followed with a run-scoring single. The Rebels improved to 8-5-1, 4-2 in league with the second win in as many days against Rio Hondo Prep.

SOFTBALL

Temple City 5, La Cañada 1: The Spartans were dealt their first Rio Hondo League loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon at home.

The Spartans (11-6, 4-1 in league), who had previously defeated Temple City, 4-1, had allowed just five total runs in their previous four league games combined, but allowed three in the top of the seventh Wednesday to seal the win for the Rams.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Alemany 3, St. Francis 1: Host Alemany recorded a 25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 27-25 Mission League win Tuesday. David Thompson finished with 39 assists and Thomas Lund added 12 kills for the Golden Knights (3-5 in league).
