Joshua Suh, who graduated from La Cañada High in the spring, registered an eagle on the final hole to win the Bishops Gate Golf Academy Junior Classic on Thursday at River Ridge Golf Club’s Victoria Lakes Course in Oxnard.
It marked the first American Junior Golf Assn. victory for the Columbia University-bound Suh, a rmultiple-time All-Area selection who notched the eagle on the par-five 18th hole. He finished with a final round of two-under-par 70. Overall, he registered a three-day score of five-under-par 211 to win by three strokes over Puwit Anupansuebsai of Thailand, Eric Ghim of Glendale, Ariz., and Wocheng Ye of China.
“This is something I didn’t imagine myself doing, especially this being one of my last tournaments,” Suh told the organization’s website. “I felt like my game was good, even with the wind blowing hard making it difficult.
“I worked very hard to get here. I’ve put a lot of work in the last year and it shows that hard work pays off.”
Suh began the tournament with a 74 and then had a 67 on the 6,791-yard course. He finished the final round with 13 pars and a pair of birdies.
Overall, Suh, who helped the Spartans split the Rio Hondo League championship last season, had 31 pars and 12 birdies.
