Pasadena City College is introducing a new program that teaches hands-on product design skills related to fields as diverse as engineering, fashion, architecture, cinema and visual graphics.
The Design Tech Pathway program involves a series of courses in the fall and spring semesters that combine more traditional math and English coursework with use of contemporary design software and training in laser-cutting, milling and 3D scanning and printing.
Registration for the fall semester begins Wednesday, and the college is also offering an introductory Design Tech Boot Camp starting Aug. 15.
Enrollment in a block of Design Tech Pathway classes allows students yearlong access to various design and technology resources on campus.
Those who complete the program can earn various technical design certificates as well as transfer credits to four-year university programs.
“The basics of design tend to cut across all disciplines, and that’s what you’ll get with this program,” said Pasadena City College spokesman Juan Gutierrez. “It runs the gamut of all types of design and then gets more specialized as you go on.
