James Sims out as La Cañada football coach
As reported via the school’s athletic Twitter account @lacanadasports, La Canada High football Coach James Sims will not return for a third season with the Spartans.
The tweet, which was released at roughly 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, read: “LCHS has decided to not renew the contract of head football coach James Sims, whose record was 7-14 in two seasons.”
Sims, who was hired in 2012, navigated a 2-8 season for the Spartans in his first year after an abbreviated offseason with the program.
This past 2013 campaign, La Cañada went 5-6, with key wins over South Pasadena and Temple City in Rio Hondo League play to advance to the CIF Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs for the first time since 2010.
The Spartans lost in the first round, 54-3, to fourth-seeded Paraclete, which was set to play in the division title game Friday night against San Dimas.
