We're tracking races across the country. Polls closed Tuesday but ballot counting continues. Races are called by the Associated Press using vote returns and other data. All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for election. Republicans need to gain five seats to win a majority. As a result of redistricting and apportionment, seven states, including California, lost seats, while six states gained seats.
Thirty five of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate are up for election. Either party needs to win only one seat to assure a majority. Two special elections to fill the remainder of Sens. Kamala Harris' and Jim Inhofe's terms are also being held.
Thirty-six governors' seats are at stake this election, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom's.
