Letter to the Editor: We need pickleball in La Cañada and a permanent court for it

Share

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America among seniors. There are more than 3,000 seniors in La Cañada, and all of us want to be active and healthy. Pickleball is perfect for us. If you are curious, youtube.com/watch?v=gmYF67dqNaQ will fill you in.

This fall La Cañada got one rudimentary, temporary pickleball court set up on Cornishon Avenue near the skate park. More than 100 La Cañada residents of all ages have played there. Pickleball is a very easy game to learn and can be played by the whole family. With 15 minutes of instruction, anyone can begin to play the sport. It is fun and full of laughter and camaraderie.

If you would like to try pickleball, please drop by the Cornishon temporary court on Saturdays or Sundays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Free instruction is provided by volunteers between 8 and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Paddles and balls are provided during instruction time.

We would like to have permanent pickleball courts in La Cañada. If you are interested, please read all about what is happening and come join us on the weekends to play. You can learn more about pickleball in La Cañada by googling “La Cañada pickleball.” Additionally, we have a Facebook page under La Cañada Pickleball.
