Bob Hope Airport’s top cop gets raise

Bob Hope Airport Police Chief Ed Skvarna is getting a 4% pay raise this year following a unanimous vote on Monday by the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.

The chief’s annual salary is now $168,730, according to a staff report.

Skvarna said the percentage for his salary hike matches the increase police officers agreed to during contract negotiations in January.

“What (authority members) did is that they took the raise and applied it to the commanders and the chief so they don’t get salary compactions,” Skvarna said.

Skvarna became chief in 2005 and, before that, he was a police captain with the Burbank Police Department.

He oversees a team of two commanders, five police sergeants, 18 full-time officers and 12 job share officers.

He also serves as public safety director, a role that encompasses overseeing the airport’s fire department.

Board President Susan Georgino thanked Skvarna for his nearly 10 years of service.

“We have a fine police department,” she said. “The resources you put together, the creativity you put together, the positioning you put us in for how we can have the safest airport in the United States and the world, we appreciate it.”
