Re: “Bob Hope Airport isn’t user friendly,” Mailbag, May 16. Writer Claude Soderstrom expresses an opinion that does not agree with the vast majority of Bob Hope Airport patrons, who consistently rate the airport high for convenience and ease of use.

He says we have high parking prices. The rate for our largest and lowest-cost economy parking, Lot A, remains unchanged since February 2011 at $10 per day, with frequent handicapped-accessible shuttle bus service a short ride from the front door. The lot is well-lit and patrolled, and priced less than nearby private lots and less than comparable lots at LAX. If price is the issue, we’ve got you covered.

He faults the airport for airline fares. The airlines set their fares, not the airport. The airlines do offer lower-tier prices at Burbank if you plan your trip in advance. We are constantly in touch with the airlines urging enhanced service and competitive fares.

The new rental car facility is indeed farther from the terminal than the old one. It was relocated last year due to an FAA mandate because the old facility encroached into the airport runway safety area. We are keenly aware that the move was a significant change from historic practice, and the elevated pedestrian walkway to the rental cars includes three moving walkways covering most of the distance. Free wheelchair service between the terminal and the rental car facility is available, and luggage carts are available at both ends of the walkway.

The airport will continue to ensure its facilities are convenient for passengers. That’s why they repeatedly come back here.
