On the Town: Burbank’s NCL chapter honors Ticktockers

Share

For young women known as “Ticktockers,” who are involved with local chapters of the mother-daughter philanthropic organization National Charity League, the daughters’ senior year of high school is both a rewarding and emotional time.

For many Ticktockers, their senior year represents the culmination of their involvement with the National Charity League since they were in seventh grade.

This year’s senior Ticktocker class of the Burbank chapter of the National Charity League were honored for their years of philanthropy and volunteerism at the group’s annual gala held this past Saturday evening at the Castaway restaurant.

Presented under the exotic theme, “Rock the Kasbah,” the event provided league members, their families, friends and supporters the opportunity to participate in an extensive silent auction and gaming stations before enjoying the evening of dining, entertainment and dancing.

Welcomed by the organization’s president, Shaunna Larson Raab, incoming president, Cheryl Kisob, and the event’s chairwoman, Lynn Stepanian, the evening’s attendees paid tribute to the current senior Ticktocker class — Samantha Veres, Rachel Galan, Danielle Boyce, Emily Mintz-Kreyns, Kristen Reslan, Sophia Augustine, Catalina Baenen, Kaitlyn Maddigan, Ava Pulvers and Stephanie O’Brien.

“This class has really bonded with one another,” said Larson Raab. “They have bonded with the charities we support as well as with one another as a cohesive group. If there was one word I would use to characterize this class, it would be ‘confidence.’ These young women have impressed me over and over again with the confidence they have displayed.”

Since its establishment in 1925 and incorporation in 1958, the National Chariety League has been embraced as one of the nation’s most well-respected mother-daughter organizations committed to the development of its members as leaders, and dedicated to volunteerism and the support of philanthropies through hands-on activities in local communities.

Involvement in the National Charity League also inspires and empowers young women to succeed as well-rounded and socially aware contributors in their communities.

That has been the case in Burbank for over half a century.

Each year, the mothers and daughters of the Burbank chapter give more than 10,000 hours of community service to local charities that have included the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and the Greater East Valley, Burbank Arts for All, the Burbank Community YMCA, Burbank Coordinating Council, Family Services Agency of Burbank, Burbank Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, the Burbank Historical Society, Burbank on Parade, the Burbank Public Library, Burbank Temporary Aid Center, the Burbank Rose Float Assn., Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, the Colony Theater Co., Family Promise of the Verdugos, the Kids Community Dental Clinic and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Committee members who staged last week’s event, and who are also playing a key role in the organization’s upcoming fashion show gala that will be held on May 6 at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel, was comprised of Charo Dolendo, Janine Washington, Sunny Peltier, Jennifer Leau, Olivia Boyce, Judy Monji, Valerie Lukban and Juliet Barroso-Navarro.

Others who made the event a success included Stephanie Jonke, Ruth Martinez-Baenen, Theresa Treadway, Michelle Bowman, Melissa Galan, Teresa Weeden, Johanna Klohn, Susan Vlick, Natasha Mahone, Laurette Cano, Lori Echavarria, Claudia Daniel and Robyn Ellis.
