Always the perfect prelude to the holidays, the women of the La Providencia Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles presented their annual Razzle Dazzle luncheon and fashion show for the 68th time at the Sheraton Universal Hotel this past Saturday.

Close to 450 guild members and guests were welcomed to the group’s premier fundraising event of the year that was staged under the theme “Deck the Halls” by the event’s chairwoman, Nancy Johnson, and Joan Chandler, who serves as the organization’s president.

Overseeing the Burbank-based guild, Chandler, whose presidential theme is “Cherish the Children With Loving Hearts,” thanked the assemblage for their support of the guild’s current projects — the Associates Rehabilitation Center Caregiver Wing and the hospital’s sarcoma program.

“May we all have love in our hearts as we benefit the children,” Chandler said.

The event on Saturday, with ABC7 Eyewitness News anchorman Phillip Palmer serving as master of ceremonies, featured entertainment by mezzo soprano Katherine Trimble and violinist Alan Chen and the day’s main event that presented the designs of Lourdes Chavez under the direction of Carin Holmenas.

Among those in attendance at last week’s fundraiser were the guild’s executive board members Lynn White-Shelby, Lorelei Kelley, Glenda Jones, Tanya Karn and Dorothy Austin, as well as event committee members Veronica Chavoor, Laureen Endoso, Vicki Margolin, Clara Monette, DeeDee Rowlands, Donna Salant, Deborah Spang, Patricia Taylor, Sharon Terranova and Kris Veatch.

Special guests who enjoyed the festive day included Bonnie McClure and Suzanne Lapis, who, respectively, serve as the chairman and director of the Associate and Affiliates program for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Robert Weiner, vice president of development for the hospital’s foundation, Burbank’s first lady Laura Frutos and City Clerk Zizette Mullins.

La Providencia Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a part of the 37-member, all-volunteer force of 3,000 men and women who serve as associates and affiliates committed to raising funds for capital-improvement projects, equipment and the vital services offered by the pediatric hospital.
