Change is something Burbank Councilman Jess Talamantes has been familiar with over recent years.

He has two children who are now married, and he has become a grandfather and a great uncle. And for the second time in his political career, Talamantes was chosen by his colleagues on Monday to serve as Burbank’s mayor.

Along with the changes in his personal life, Talamantes said during the reorganization meeting Monday that there are also many changes in the political realm.

“We will see change in our government representatives at all levels,” he said, noting that there will be a new president, new U.S. and state senators, a new assembly member and a new Los Angeles County supervisor.

“I can’t recall a time when we have seen this much change take place all at the same time,” he said.

Talamantes, who replaces Councilman Bob Frutos after serving as his vice mayor for the past year, said he will work with the newly elected officials to address the city’s wants and needs.

Councilman Will Rogers, who is serving his second year on the council, will serve as vice mayor for the year.

Talamantes nominated Councilwoman Emily Gabel-Luddy to be second-in-command. However, his choice garnered no support. Gabel-Luddy chose Rogers to be vice mayor and was seconded by Councilman David Gordon.
