Burbank and Burroughs high school students send words of hope to human trafficking victims

Share

Burbank and Burroughs high school students recently created and signed more than 200 cards of encouragement and support to victims of human trafficking.

Students who are part of Burbank High’s Social Justice Club organized the project, said the club’s president, Sam Gorman.

Club members also reached out to Burroughs High School’s Do Something Club, and its members also created cards for victims.

Some of the messages included “We stand with you,” “Burbank High supports you,” “I want you to feel happy,” and “Be strong,” Gorman said.

The students then sent the cards to A21, an organization with administrative offices around the world working to combat human trafficking.

Gorman said he hopes the act of kindness will alter the perception that teens don’t have the resources to create change.

“Often, it can seem that teenagers can’t make a difference [in] the lives of others,” Gorman said. “Social Justice Club wanted to prove that wrong through a simple yet powerful gesture of support and appreciation. We did our best to show that hundreds of our students cared for these victims, regardless of distance.”
