80-year-old Burbank man fatally struck by vehicle while crossing street

Burbank police are investigating a vehicle collision that resulted in the death of an 80-year-old pedestrian Wednesday morning.

Thomas Jones was crossing Glenoaks Boulevard at Lincoln Street around 7:15 a.m. when he was struck by a compact SUV driven by a man. Sgt. Derek Green, a spokesman for the Burbank Police Department, said Jones was transported to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Green said Jones was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

“Which, generally speaking, would still give the pedestrian the right of way,” he said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are currently considered factors in the collision, and Green said speeding didn’t appear to play a role.

“There are other circumstances that could affect the cause [of the collision], so we’re looking for witnesses,” he said.

Anyone with information about the collision can contact the Burbank Police Traffic Bureau at (818) 238-3100.
