Police detain two men reportedly arguing over presidential election after one pulls out a firearm

A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday after reportedly brandishing a firearm in public during an argument with another man over the recent presidential election, police officials said.

Burbank police responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. regarding a man wielding a handgun outside of Joe’s Great American Bar and Grill, 4311 W. Magnolia Blvd.

The man who brandished the gun then left the restaurant with another person in a vehicle but was tracked down several blocks away near Chandler Boulevard and California Street.

Officers took two men into custody, and Chandler was briefly closed off.

Martin Pena of Van Nuys was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Granada Hills resident Mark Van Dergeugten, 47, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was the driver of the vehicle that left the restaurant.
