Hollywood Burbank Airport saw a roughly 2.9% increase in passengers traveling through its terminals in May compared with the same month a year earlier.

The airfield reported 351,043 passengers in May, which is 9,852 more than in May 2015, and 2,005 more than what airport officials projected , said Mark Hardyment, the airfield’s director of government and environmental affairs, during a Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority meeting on Monday.

The boost in numbers was attributed to performances by United Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines. United had 23,751 passengers in May, about a 37.7% jump compared to last year. Alaska contributed 39,844 passengers, about 17.2% more than a year ago. Delta saw a similar increase, with 7,938 passengers passing through, about a 16.5% rise.

American Airlines took a hit in May, with 13,120 passengers, about a 6.4% drop from last year. JetBlue Airways struggled slightly, with 8,334 passengers, or about at 1.2% dip. Southwest Airlines, the airfield’s largest airline carrier, had relatively flat numbers with 258,056 passengers, about a 0.5% difference.

Parking revenues also saw similar positive numbers in May, said Mary Tromp, the authority’s parking manager. The airport made $1.74 million, about 1.9% more than the year before.

What has helped the airfield’s parking revenues is an increase in $3 parking-ticket transactions, mainly used by ride-sharing drivers. Out of the 59,945 tickets pulled in May, 19,542 of them were $3 transactions. There were 11,393 $3 transactions in May 2015, Tromp said.
