A Burbank mother and her 18-year-old daughter were killed in a car collision in Pasadena early Tuesday morning that left five others injured, officials said.

Two cars collided shortly after midnight at the intersection of El Molino Avenue and Maple Street, according to Pasadena Fire spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.

Five people — including the mother and daughter who were pronounced dead at the scene — were inside a Chevrolet Impala, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman. Two others in the car suffered major injuries, while another passenger had minor injuries, he added.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other car, a Kia Optima, was transported to a hospital in stable condition, while the passenger was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police believe one of the cars ran a red light, though the investigation is ongoing to determine which one. It doesn’t appear alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
