Leader Editorial: Burbank citizens need to give their input on airport terminal

Share

As the debate and discussion about a possible replacement terminal at Bob Hope Airport continues apace, there is one voice that has remained mostly silent: that of the Burbank citizenry.

During a recent Airport Authority meeting about the issue only one member of the public showed up. Contrast that to the response a few months back, when many people objected — loudly — to a marketing study’s suggestion that the name of the local airport be changed, a move that arguably will have no direct impact on their lives.

At the most recent meeting on the subject, the Airport Authority approved a $1.2 million environmental review to look at two options for a larger replacement terminal, one option for a same-size replacement terminal and two “no build” options that would assume continued operation out of the current terminal. The airport’s executive director, Dan Feger, has said this study is just the “first of several steps,” and that the public will be given opportunity to become engaged in the discussion.

We urge Burbank residents to watch this process closely, take advantage of any open meetings or workshops related to it and make sure the authority knows their opinion.
