Letter: Basket program welcomes helpers in Burbank

Share

I wanted to invite fellow Burbankians to participate in some upcoming activities. On Thursday, Dec. 3, the Burbank Advisory Council on Disabilities will meet from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room 101 of the Community Service Building, 150 N. 3rd St. We need people to come and share their thoughts and findings on accessibility in our city. To learn more about how you might get involved, email jrdiel@aol.com or ksanks@sbcglobal.net or call (818) 216-9377.

Also, it is time again to think of helping others. Since 1946, the Burbank Coordinating Council has partnered with schools, churches, service organizations, city office departments and individuals to prepare the 550 baskets of food and gifts to donate to local low-income families.

There are many ways you can help:

1. Donate time to help us collect food at local markets on Saturday, Dec. 5. Call Barbara for details at (818) 843-7571.

2. Help us sort and bag food items on Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Little White Chapel, 1711 N. Avon St.

3. Help with the transfer of food bags from Little White Chapel and the building of baskets at the Washington Elementary School Auditorium, 2322 N. Lincoln St., on Friday, Dec.11, from 2 to 9 p.m.

4. Help deliver baskets to families in Burbank on Sat., Dec. 12, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the lunch shelters for Washington Elementary.

5. You can still adopt a family and prepare a basket of food and gifts for them, for delivery Saturday, Dec. 12.

For information or to sign up to help, call (818) 216-9377 or (818) 238-7647 or email us at ccholidaybaskets@aol.com. Learn more at burbankcoordinatingcouncil.org or on our Facebook page, facebook.com/burbankcoordinatingcouncil.

Thank you in advance for stepping forward to help us help Burbank children and their families.

Best of the holidays to all.
